The current economy makes sure that are in good jobs can
actively seek employment and are willing to move. The tight competition in the
job market ensures that businesses may have you set up to loose your top
employees and you may not even know it.
1. One way that employers can take care of their workers is
ensuring they improve the work environment. Top employees want to know that
they will be given at least the basic respect in the workplace. Remove that and
you will see your best employees walking out. A respectable work place should
include recognition for accomplishments and goals being met as well as feedback
and constructive criticism for growth.
2. Give employees the
freedom to speak their minds. If employees feel they have to stay quiet and
keep their ideas to themselves, you're going to find yourself in trouble,
because that's when they leave. Going
forth you may ask them what's on their minds. If you solicit employees'
feedback, they expect you to do something with it. Not taking action on that feedback
tells employees you're not really listening, and that, is when they start
looking for other job opportunities.
3. The efforts you make to engage your employees are only as
good as how well you communicate these efforts to them. If companies are sincere
about their efforts in retaining people, they've got to share that. As long as
companies are out there and telling their employees what they're doing to
support them their employees, then more the communication channels are open. It
is important that you have a strategy for keeping good employees. It is
important that you know why they come to you for employment. They come for; a
steady salary and benefits, where you are located, advancement opportunities,
job security, nature of work and the personal, as well as, family time that
their job allows them to have. The reasons that top employees stay are slightly
different;
a. Confidence Factor.
This means that they remain in the company that they work for they believe in
potential success and leadership strategies.
b. Emotional Factor.
These play a very important role as need to be valued for their contribution,
recognition, appreciation.
Trust factor. This goes both ways employees will expect you
to keep their promises and commitments as much as you expect them to keep
yours.
d. Fit factor. Are
your employee’s values and ethics a good fit in your organization?
e. Listening Factor.
Are your employees heard and valued? Employers have to not only work on keeping
and satisfying their employees, but keeping them engaged on a day-to-day basis.
Give your employees freedom to fail, reduce bureaucracy, and challenge the
"status quo." Breathe life into your organization. Do not let your
employees stagnate.
